The dry scrub East End of St. Croix is where you’ll find most of the island’s cactus species. Sometimes referred to as “the camels of the plant world,” cactus are efficient at storing water. On your drive out to Pt. Udall, you are certain to see Turk’s cap cactus (pictured top) or barrel cactus, prickly pear (pictured bottom), and organ pipe cactus. Even if you’re lucky enough to see a bird’s nest perched on a Turk’s cap, beware of this cactus’ spines.
