“A wonderful bird is the pelican. His bill can hold more than his belly can.” Made famous by this popular limerick, pelicanus occidentalis flies all around the coast of St. Croix. Seen soaring single file with an aim to feed, or waddling humorously on shore, the brown pelican nests in colonies, the parents taking turns incubating the eggs, protecting them from neighbors and in feeding.
