One of St. Croix's largest employers is the Cruzan Rum Distillery. High quality sugar cane molasses is combined with yeast cultures for fermenting. After distilling, the rum is transfered to these wooden barrels and aged for anywhere from 2 to 12+ years. Whatever remains after evaporation is Cruzan Rum, then filtered, bottled, and shipped to a store near you. A fascinating process to watch, and a delicious end product to enjoy. Guided tours of the distillery are available and rum tastings are offered.
