These busy little birds must have been in seventh heaven during the days “when sugar was king.”  Also called sugarbird, the bananaquit is the territorial bird.  It flocks to feeders to feast on plain white sugar or gets nectar by poking holes in the base of flowers.

Their nest is a messy woven globe made of grass and leaves with a side entrance.  Their weazy vocalization is often heard if you’re dining outside anywhere near vegetation.
